Malaysian electro-pop artist Ze! is said to redefine glam. This loud and brash disco rebel is hugely influenced by Madonna and her style has been drawn in comparison to Peaches, Yelle, M.I.A., Lady Gaga, The Ting Tings, CSS and Santigold.

Since her exit from Malaysian Idol in 2005, Ze! not only has toured all of Europe, Australia and Brazil, but also completed a North American tour playing at the SXSW Festival (2011 Official Showcase). Not only that, Ze has made headlines with her name being seen on CNN iReport, LA Weekly, MTV Iggy and Quiksilver Pro NY.

Her experience with fashion? Aside from running the OSIXNINE boutique with her sister once, Ze! has modeled for designers Stevie Boi, KLxTL, Charles of London, Criminal Damage, Lonely 8-bit Heroes and headlined fashion events by Reebok, adidas, Tony Hawk and Vice Magazine. Ze! styles herself and designs her own outfits, making every one of her shows a little catwalk of her own.

What is ‘style’ to you?
Style is being comfortable in your own skin. If you’ve got that aspect right, it doesn’t quite matter what you wear anymore.

How would you define your own style?
Colourful. I love colours. I think it says, “HATE ME OR LOVE ME BUT DONT YOU F**ING IGNORE ME!”. What I wear depends on my mood, really. You can pretty much see how I’m feeling or want to feel depending on what I’ve got on.

What inspires your style?
Like I said, my mood. Fashion’s a great way to express yourself without actually saying anything.

Any famous fashion icons whose style you look up to and that you try to emulate?
I worship Madonna and Michael Jackson. I think we can safely say now that their style is timeless. I’m a proud baby of the ’80s.

Betsey Johnson!

If we took a peek into your wardrobe, what would be the top three clothing items we’d find?
Leggings in all colours imaginable, more shades than I need and a shitload of zebra prints this-and-thats.

With regards to accessorizing, name an essential fashion accessory that you’ll never leave home without.
My body piercings. And chewing gum…

Do you believe in fashion trends? What trend do you wish you had never followed? What trend would you like to bring back?
No, absolutely none. I don’t believe in trends. I wear whatever the eff I want, however I want.
