U.S. Customs and Border Protection proudly introduced in a press launch on Friday a seizure of two,000 bins of “counterfeit” Apple AirPods, mentioned to be price about $400,000, from a cargo at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
But the photographs within the press launch seem to point out bins of OnePlus Buds, the wi-fi earphones made by smartphone maker OnePlus, and never Apple AirPods as CBP had claimed.
Here’s CBP’s photograph of the allegedly counterfeit items:

The resemblance is uncanny. We reached out to a CBP spokesperson for remark however didn’t hear again.
According to the press launch: “The interception of those counterfeit earbuds is a direct reflection of the vigilance and dedication to mission success by our CBP Officers every day,” mentioned Troy Miller, director of CBP’s New York Field Operations.
If solely it was.
