First Snow of the Season, Followed by a Pacific Cyclone

First Snow of the Season, Followed by a Pacific Cyclone

As chilly, unstable air strikes into the Northwest, snow has returned to the Washington Cascades.

For instance, at Crystal Mountain summit at round 7000 ft, a dusting of snow was evident round midday (see under), with the evergreens decked out shortly mantel.

Currently, the snow stage is round 5500 ft and will drop in the course of the afternoon to round 5000 ft.

Cold air aloft above hotter circumstances close to the floor ends in a big change in temperature with peak, which produces instability.  Such instability produces convective clouds and thunderstorms and as I write this weblog in north Seattle,  I can hear thunder to the north.

The satellite tv for pc image round midday reveals the convective/thunderstorm clouds clearly over the Pacific Ocean (see under).   Convective clouds have the “popcorn” mottled look, with white and darkish areas.  Lightning sensors are choosing up some lightning occasions on the market.

And fascinating climate will not be restricted to snow and thunderstorms.  A reasonably sturdy low heart (a.okay.a. a midlatitude cyclone), will make landfall tomorrow night.  The forecast map at 5 PM Sunday reveals the story.  The low will transfer eastward throughout northern Washington with giant variations in strain and powerful winds to its south.1605313257 171 First Snow of the Season Followed by a Pacific Cyclone
